QUEBEC CITY, CANADA, March 26, 2008—EXFO Electro-Optical Engineering Inc. (NASDAQ: EXFO; TSX: EXF) announced today that it has acquired all the shares of Navtel Communications Inc., a leading provider of Internet Protocol Multimedia Subsystem (IMS) and Voice-over-Internet Protocol (VoIP) test solutions for Network Equipment Manufacturers (NEMs) and Network Service Provider (NSP) labs.

 Consideration paid consists of C$11.0 million in cash, subject to adjustments on working capital. The deal is expected to be neutral to EXFO’s earnings for the remainder of fiscal 2008 and accretive in fiscal 2009, excluding amortization of intangible assets to be accounted for in the acquisition.

Telecommunication regulators promote infrastructure sharing

Pattaya, Thailand, 13 March 2008 - The Global Symposium for Regulators closed today, focusing on best practices in regulatory measures to foster and encourage sharing of infrastructure resources as a means of stimulating investment and growth in the ICT sector.

The 8th annual Global Symposium for Regulators (GSR-08) was chaired by General Choochart Promphrasid, Chairman of the National Telecommunication Commission (NTC) in Pattaya, Thailand. GSR-08 was organized by the International Telecommunication Union in collaboration with the Ministry of Information and Communication Technology (MICT) and NTC of Thailand.

The Open IPTV Forum, now consisting of 26 members, publishes its end-to-end Architecture specification

The Open IPTV Forum is working towards an end-to-end specification to allow any consumer end device, compliant to the Open IPTV Forum specifications, to access enriched and personalized IPTV services.

 

As a consequence of this initiative the following first important results have been achieved: 

The first version of the Service and Platform Requirements document, for both Managed and Open Internet models was released in the autumn of 2007. This document was followed recently by the first Architecture specification.

 

The agreed Architecture specification is publicly available via the Open IPTV Forum home page and the Service and Platform requirements via the publications area (http://www.openiptvforum.org/downloads.html). These are considered important steps towards the Open IPTV Forum goals and the Forum encourages the industry to take a look at them.

KidsCo Launches Across Asia

London (14th MARCH 2008) KidsCo, the joint venture channel owned by leading media companies NBC Universal, DIC Entertainment (DIC) and Corus Entertainment Inc.’s Nelvana Enterprises, goes on air in the Philippines, South Korea, Singapore and Palau on 20th March 2008.

 

The announcement follows the securing of carriage deals with various platform operators in Asia, including SingTel’s mio TV in Singapore, the Philippines’ Sky Cable, Palau’s PNCC and Korea’s HanaTV at the end of this month. KidsCo has also signed a deal with the Philippines’ Cable Boss to act as their distributor in that market.  It is anticipated that KidsCo will be available in up to 40 territories – including Europe and Latin America within the next 18 months.  The channel currently broadcasts in Romania, Ukraine, Hungary, Russia, Turkey and Poland.
